In the initial part I defined concepts and ways of ensuring security of countriesin which I analyzed and then compared the performance of defense diplomacy of small states, which include Macedonia, Slovenia and Switzerland. All three countries with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the independence (RM & RS), have developed a new concept of defense diplomacy, which included a program of defense cooperation, arms control, to prevent its spread, promote reforms in the armed forces and activities strengthening of mutual trust. Interesting form of defense diplomatic activities in 1994, offered NATO by theprogram Partnership for Peace (later also with other programs and initiatives), in order to establish a political, defense and military partnership. Macedonia, Slovenia and Switzerland have decided to join the PfP in order to build the connectivity of the armed forces of partner countries and with the aim realization of their foreign policy strategies, including ensuring the safety as one of the most important goal. Macedonia and Slovenia have chosen membership in NATO as the possibility of providing security while Switzerland orients themselves only in collaboration with NATO and keeping itsneutrality. Common to all three countries is the fact, that their defense diplomacy scope of peacetime cooperation and use of Department of Defense as atool of foreign and security policy, strategic engagement with the task to reduce the potential conflicts, promote democratic civil-military relations, support for other countries to develop capacities for operations peacekeeping, etc. | Ključne besede: | defense diplomacy, national security system, security, security policy, foreign policy, cooperation, peace, international organizations, NATO |
